A Case Study in Recovery - Kuranda
If there is an area knows a little about recovery, then it has
to be the Kuranda region, just north of Cairns. Not only has it
been affected by a downturn in tourism thanks to the Global
Financial Crisis, natural weather events such as cyclones and
floods caused a landslide which led to the track closure of the
iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway.
We will visit tourist attractions that are highly awarded for
their commitment and conduct of eco-tourism and, timing permitting,
also look at an indigenous tourism attraction.
This is an optional full day tour on Wednesday 15th September
and will include:
A journey
from Cairns to Kuranda on the Scenic Railway
Presentations in Kuranda from local
business leaders including:
- eco-tourism,
- indigenous tourism,
- how the global financial crisis
and recent floods have affected the local tourism industry
and
- risk management for
operations.
Lunch in Kuranda
Return to Cairns via the Skyrail.
Accompanying persons are welcome to attend. If you would like to
